Life Skills Workshops

Columbia Heights Village Columbia Heights Village Tenant Association Inc will provide resident of Columbia Heights Village Apartments access to workshops throughout the year. Our life skills workshops include the following:

Etiquette Classes – We will teach residents to communicate effectively and other etiquette skills so that they will be able to present themselves in a professional and respectful manner in the workplace and in society.
Parenting Skills – This program will assist participants learn how to restructure their family and renew their parenting skills to provide a secure, supportive, comfortable and structured environment to help their children blossom and grow.

Health and Nutrition Program

The health and nutrition program will address physical health and nutrition education for parents and children. This program will provide awareness designed to promote and encourage a healthy lifestyle. This program will include nutrition, meal planning, cooking, and fitness classes.

New Heights Summer Camp

The purpose and vision of the “Reaching New H.E.I.G.H.T.S Academy” is to improve the quality of life for youth through instructional programs rooted in education, positive attitude, work-ethic, discipline, team work and critical thinking skills. The Reaching New Heights Academy is designed to help students communicate effectively, live healthier lives, become more active and have fun learning how to overcome adversity in order to succeed in life.

Financial Wellness

This program will assist residents with successful financial planning. Residents will develop short-term and long-term financial goals. They will establish a checking and saving account and learn to balance their accounts. They will keep accurate financial records and develop budget plans to fit their needs. Strategies will be given to help manage and save money. Our activities do not include seminars or counseling to help people improve their credit.  We will not be involved in any credit counseling or repair type activities.

Employment Counseling, Career Development and Job Readiness

We will provide workshops to train individuals on basic job skills, interviewing, resume writing and job search.

The Program Coordinator and trained volunteers will oversee the activities. These activities usually require 10% of our resources.

Adult Literacy Program

Columbia Heights Village Columbia Heights Village Tenant Association Inc plans to implement an adult literacy program by the Fall of 2019 to teach reading and writing skills to residents. In partnering with local colleges, universities, and business owners in the community, this program will be offered at no charge to residents of Columbia Heights Village.

The Program Coordinator will oversee the activities. This activity usually requires 3% of our resources.

Academic Tutoring

We will provide academic tutoring for grade school and high school students primarily in reading and math.  Tutoring services will be held on a daily basis in one of the classroom spaces.  We will have volunteers serve as tutors.  We expect to begin offering this service in the Fall of 2019.

A Program Director will manage this program and will require approximately 3% of our time and resources.

Computer Training and Access

Columbia Heights Village Columbia Heights Village Tenant Association Inc will set-up a computer lab and provide computer training for residents of Columbia Heights Village.  We will provide computer access for academic purposes and controlled internet access.  The computer lab will be open during specified hours for youth and seniors.  The program will be free of charge and available on a first-come-first-serve basis.  We expect to begin offering this service in late Spring of 2019.

Awards Banquet & Fashion Show

Columbia Heights Village Columbia Heights Village Tenant Association Inc host an Awards Banquet and Fashion Show to acknowledge and recognize residents, youth, seniors, volunteers, and community leaders for their service during the previous year. The fashion show is a signature event because it features residents of the Columbia Height Village young and old. Empowering, inspiring and celebrating their accomplishments as he/she walks the runway.

The Program Coordinator and trained volunteers will oversee the activities. This activity usually requires 5% of our resources.
